In Spring (March–May), as temperatures climb above the Niagara Escarpment, carpenter ants become the dominant call across Ancaster and Dundas — particularly in homes with mature trees or wood-to-soil contact. Rodents that overwintered in Barton Street and James Street North homes begin expanding into new territories as construction activity near the waterfront intensifies. In Summer (June–August), Cootes Paradise and the Royal Botanical Gardens wetlands drive mosquito pressure into Westdale, Ainslie Wood, and the Dundas Valley. Wasp and hornet colonies peak in July, with Stoney Creek and Binbrook properties seeing the highest nest activity. In Fall (September–November), mice and rats begin seeking warm entry points in older downtown Hamilton homes, while raccoons and squirrels from the escarpment start probing attics in Flamborough and Waterdown. Fall is also cockroach season in high-density buildings near the downtown core. In Winter (December–February), bed bug activity in multi-unit buildings along King Street and Main Street West escalates, and rodent infestations deepen as populations that entered in autumn become entrenched.
